I’m Nicole Garner Meeker. I’m a writer, researcher, and copyeditor.

I’m passionate about agriculture, history, and the great outdoors.

As someone who loves food — growing, foraging, and eating it — I can’t stay away from a project about all of the above.

I began my journalism career at small news outlets in the rural Midwest, where I was jokingly nicknamed the “courts and corn” gal for covering local government, crime, and agriculture. Those beats helped me hone the skills to dig for facts, plant big gardens (and write about them), and support others in sharing their stories.

You can find my bylines at Mental Floss, Better Report, Interesting Facts, Refinery29, Dave’s Garden, and other spots. I’ve also worked as a staff copyeditor and research editor for brands including Bustle, Elite Daily, Romper, Mic, and 10Ten Media, and provide editing services to grant writing companies, businesses, and emerging authors.

Extra extra: I’m the real-life human behind Outdoor Humans, a free monthly newsletter that encourages folks to spend quality time with nature through seasonal prompts.

I’m a proud grad of the Missouri School of Journalism at Mizzou (Go Tigers!) and have a Bachelors of Journalism and a Masters of Journalism, with emphasis in news editing and multicultural studies.
